Happy Sunday! In order to procrastinate unpacking, doing laundry and making rosters for my twenty classes, here is a list of funny quotes I’ve heard in China:
Suzzy:
S: “Owww! I have a blue thing like you on my leg!!” R: “You mean a bruise?”
“It was so cold! It was like 30 F circle outside!!”
“Is black people in Australia called operational?”
“So… If jalapeño is pepper then Philippines person is what?”
One of the English teachers in Beijing:
“Richelle, When you went to Hainan did your skin become black?”
During AYC orientation, while watching endless videos of Chinese teachers teaching English (WHY we had to watch about 500 of these 40 minute long videos? No one knows.):
“Do you afraid of snake?”
“If you pick the rabbit’s ass it will bite you! RAWR!” [rabbits up?]
“You can see the zebra strips everyday on the road!! Where do we walk?? On the zebra strips!” (yes, strips not stripes)
“White [why] people want to kill elephants to get the tongue [tusk] of the elephants?”
“If you hit my arm so hard, my boons will break”
“You can find so many mecins that contain tiger boons” [medicines]
“Do you know blanket? You can put it on the ground and sit on it. Many people like the tiger blanket”
“You can see a lot of voluntaries there”
“They’re called indangered because they are IN danger”
ADVENTURES AROUND ASIA 
The one with the black skin must be a direct word-by-word translation from Chinese. The word for “black” can also mean “dark”.
I guess I say things like that all the time in Chinese (especially sentences like the one with the blue thing). 😀

Yeah, I definitely use those phrases a lot when speaking Chinese, but it always sounds funny directly translated in English!
